Acupressure Facial Massage- A Natural Facelift
Getting regular Acupressure Facials can do wonders for rejuvenating your complexion, reducing wrinkles and lines and toning the muscles. A natural Facelift! Combined with gentle massage techniques, it also feels great, is very relaxing and you can do it yourself!
The concept of Acupressure Facial Massage comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its taught that our bodies core energy, or chi, travels through channels, or meridians. These meridians have specific patterns along the body. For optimum health , this energy needs to be moving smoothly and evenly through the meridians. Its common for the channels to become sluggish, or dammed up. This can create poor health as well as effect the surface muscles and tissues of the body. The common way that is used to re-balance these meridians is with acupuncture or acupressure.
Several of these meridians and their consequent acupressure points travel up the neck and over the face. By gently stimulating the points along these meridians you both relax and tone the muscles, as well as bring fresh energy to the surface tissues. Combined with massage, circulation is increased and the overall complexion is improved.
In giving yourself or others an acupressure facial massage, the points can be stimulated in different ways. You can gently tap or massage the points using small circular movements. It is nice to use a combination for variety. When you come to areas that are tight, such as along the jaw, you can gently hold those area with you thumbs or fingertips. Using acupressure in this way, by holding a point for up to a minute or two, you will help it relax and let go. By doing this, another dammed or congested area of energy is released to flow to other areas more freely.
Knowing the details of where the points and meridians are can be helpful, but not always necessary. Generally, the main areas to cover include the following. Along the top and underside of the upper eye socket. Along the top and underside of the lower eye socket. Start at the inner part of the eye socket against the nose and work your way around out to the temples. Along the chin and out to the jaw area. You can open and close your mouth to feel for the jaw points. If these areas are sore spend some time applying gentle pressure with your thumbs or fingertips to help them relax.
Being in the general area of the acupressure points is usually all that necessary. This is easy to do on the face. The important thing is that you are gentle and repetitive. Spend plenty of time going over the areas. Combine this with general massage strokes and your acupressure facial massage is complete. Allow yourself some time out each day for this relaxing self treatment, or better yet go to a massage therapist for your treatments. Soon you will notice your face and complexion looking healthier and more radiant and younger!
